The modeling phase focuses on optimizing the 3D geometry and organizing the scene for shading.
Each component is processed individually using InstaLOD Optimize tool, which runs on a virtual machine.
The polygon reduction percentage is adjusted according to the base mesh density and the visibility of the part within the final model:
- 10–15% for small or hidden elements (e.g., screws or internal parts)
- 35–40% for prominent components (e.g., temples and front frames)
- 80% for surface logos, in order to preserve detail and avoid excessive deformation
These percentages are indicative and may vary depending on the details of each model.
Once the polygon reduction is complete via InstaLOD on the virtual machine, the optimized model is exported as an FBX file and brought back locally to continue work within our pre-configured scene.
The optimized components are moved to the RETOPO collection and renamed following the standard naming convention using the Component Renamer script with the Rename FULL option, marking them as Retopo Component (_RC suffix).
