Analytics for Gateways
The Gateways Analytics section helps you understand how users reach your branded entry points (gateway pages/experiences) and what they do next. It mirrors the interaction model of VTO Services Analytics: same core metrics, same filtering logic, and the same way charts and tables react to your selections.
Purpose of Gateways Analytics
This section helps clients to:
- Monitor the audience arriving on gateway pages and campaigns.
- Track engagement over time and compare different gateways.
- Understand onward actions (e.g. clicks to destinations) when available.
- Optimise messaging, creatives and CTAs based on real behaviour.
How to Access the Section
- From the left‑hand menu, select Analytics > Gateways.
- The page opens with aggregated data for all gateways you have access to.
- Access is available to Admins (all gateways of the organisation) and Members (only gateways within their assigned subscriptions). Validators do not have access.
Available Metrics
The core metrics are aligned with VTO Services Analytics so that you can compare performance consistently, without needing new definitions.
| Metric | How it is calculated (plain language) | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Sessions | Count of valid visits to gateways in the selected period. Extremely short interactions are excluded so that results reflect real engagement. | Overall visit volume. Helps track traffic spikes and campaign impact. |
| Users | Unique visitors, counted once per device/browser per day. | How many distinct people/devices reached your gateways. |
| New Users | Devices that start their first recorded session in the selected period. | Share of first‑time visitors you are attracting. |
| Average Session Duration | Total validated time on gateways divided by the number of sessions; excessively long dwell times may be capped to avoid bias. | Typical time visitors spend engaging with the gateway. |
| Average Engagement per User | Total validated time divided by unique users. | On average, how long each person engages within the period. |
| Average Sessions per User | Total sessions ÷ unique users (rounded). | Visit frequency per person. |
| Device/Platform Distribution | Sessions and unique devices grouped by device type/OS/browser. | Where your audience is coming from (e.g. Mobile vs Desktop). |
Date Range and Quick Periods
- Use the Date Range Selector to switch between daily, weekly, or monthly views.
- The tab provides pre‑defined periods (e.g. Last 3 months) to quickly select standard ranges.
How to Use Filters
- Click Open Filter to display the filter panel.
- You can select one or more Gateways at the same time.
- After choosing, click Apply Filter to update charts and tables.
- For a safe change of selection, first Reset Filters, then select new items and press Apply Filter again.
- When you select one or more gateways, all graphs and tables display only the trends and results for those gateways. To choose a different gateway or return to the full view, Reset Filters and apply a new selection.
Page Views by Page
Understand which gateway pages/screens are viewed the most.
- Page Views: counts each time a page/screen is displayed.
- Top Pages: ranking table showing the most viewed pages within the active filters and date range.
- Use Open Filter to focus on specific gateways and click Apply Filter. Remember to Reset Filters to return to the overall view.
Events
Measure key interactions captured on gateways (for example, CTA clicks, outbound links, or other tracked actions when available in your setup).
- Events Total: total count of tracked events in the period.
- Events by Type: breakdown by event name/type (e.g. primary CTA).
- Events by Page: which pages generate more interactions.
- Filters work exactly as above; all charts and tables update to reflect the selected gateways.
Geolocation
See where your visitors come from.
- Map/Heatmap: visual distribution by Country/City.
- Table Breakdown: sortable list of locations with the number of visits and the percentage of the total.
- Selecting gateways narrows the map and table to those gateways only. Reset Filters to go back to the global view.
Reading the Graphs and Tables
- Trend charts show how Users and Sessions evolve over time and update instantly with your filters.
- Ranking tables (Top Gateways, Top Pages, Events) compare performance side‑by‑side.
- Distribution charts summarise device/platform usage and geolocation.
- When you select one or more gateways, all graphs and tables show only the trends for the selected gateways. To select another gateway or return to all data, Reset Filters and then Apply Filter again.
Reports
- Click Download Report to export data for the active filters and date range.
- Available formats: CSV or Excel.
- Reports typically include totals (Users, Sessions), trends over time, device/platform distribution, Top Pages, Events breakdowns, and geolocation summaries.
- For an overall snapshot across all gateways, Reset Filters before exporting.
Examples of Use
- Compare two campaign gateways over the last 3 months to see which brought more Users and generated more CTA events.
- Filter to a single gateway after a creative change and check whether Average Session Duration and Page Views on key screens have improved.
- Reset filters and export a global report to share monthly performance with stakeholders.
