Validate Variants

Last Updated: 28/11/2025

Variant validation is the process of reviewing individual 3D models and confirming they're ready for publication. Each variant represents a specific combination of product attributes (color, size, lens type).

What is a Variant?

A variant is a specific configuration of a frame. For example:

  • Product: Ray-Ban Wayfarer
  • Variants:
    • Black frame, standard size, clear lens
    • Brown frame, standard size, polarized lens
    • Black frame, large size, clear lens
    • Brown frame, large size, polarized lens

Each variant has its own 3D model that needs validation.

The Validation Workflow

Step 1: Access Variants for Review

  1. From Frame Validation, select a batch that's "Ready for Review"
  2. Click on a product to see all its variants
  3. You'll see a list of all variants with:
    • Thumbnail preview of the 3D model
    • Variant details (color, size, lens)
    • Current validation status
    • Production progress

Step 2: Review the 3D Model

  1. Click on a variant to open the Variant Details view
  2. You'll see:
    • 3D Model Preview - Interactive preview of the frame
    • Model Metadata - Technical information (file size, format, creation date)
    • Variant Information - Color, size, SKU, EAN, UPC
    • Quality Indicators - Any issues flagged during production

Step 3: Inspect the 3D Asset

In the preview area, you can:

  • Rotate the model - Click and drag to rotate 360°
  • Zoom in/out - Use scroll wheel for detail inspection
  • Generate QR Code - Create a QR code to test the model on devices
  • Download Preview - Save a preview image

Look for:

  • Accurate frame geometry and proportions
  • Proper lens placement and transparency
  • Material textures (metal, acetate, etc.)
  • Color accuracy matching brand standards
  • No visible artifacts or distortions

Step 4: Make a Decision

Accept the Variant

If the 3D model meets your quality standards:

  1. Click Accept button
  2. Model is marked as "Validated"
  3. Variant becomes available for publication
  4. Asset is ready to add to catalogues

Request Revision

If there are issues:

  1. Click Request Revision
  2. Select the issue category:
    • Geometry/Proportions
    • Color/Material
    • Lens Quality
    • Other
  3. Add detailed feedback in the comment field
  4. Describe what needs to be fixed
  5. Click Submit

The production team receives your feedback and creates a revised version.

Reject the Variant

If the model cannot be salvaged:

  1. Click Reject
  2. Provide reason for rejection
  3. Indicate if production should restart
  4. Submit rejection

This removes the variant from the workflow. You may need to reorder.

Bulk Validation

If you have many similar variants, you can validate multiple at once:

  1. In the variants list, select multiple variants using checkboxes
  2. Review each thumbnail
  3. If they all meet quality standards, click Bulk Accept
  4. All selected variants are validated simultaneously

This is useful for:

  • Multiple sizes of the same product
  • Simple color variations
  • Standard lens options

Validation Status Tracking

As you validate variants, the batch progress updates:

StatusMeaningAction
Awaiting ValidationNot yet reviewedReview and decide
ValidatedAccepted and readyCan be added to catalogues
Revision RequestedNeeds improvementWait for updated model
RejectedWill not be usedMay need to reorder

Publishing Validated Variants

Once validated, variants:

  • Become available in Catalogues section
  • Can be added to your product collections
  • Are ready for Virtual Try-On and 3D viewers
  • Can be linked in your catalogues

To publish a validated variant:

  1. Go to My Catalogues
  2. Create or edit a catalogue
  3. Search for your product
  4. Validated variants will appear as available
  5. Add them to your catalogue
  6. Publish the catalogue

Best Practices

Quality Standards

Establish consistent quality standards:

  • Define acceptable geometry tolerances
  • Specify color accuracy requirements
  • Document texture and material standards
  • Create internal guidelines for your team

Batch Validation Strategy

  • Validate regularly - Don't wait until all products are done
  • Flag issues early - Request revisions as soon as you spot problems
  • Document feedback - Be specific in revision requests so production team can improve
  • Test on devices - Use QR codes to test models on mobile devices before publishing

Team Communication

  • Assign validators - Designate team members for validation work
  • Share standards - Ensure all validators follow the same quality standards
  • Track progress - Monitor how many variants are validated per day
  • Share results - Report completion rates to stakeholders

Troubleshooting

Model Won't Preview

  • Check internet connection
  • Try a different browser
  • Refresh the page
  • Contact support if issue persists

Quality Issues in 3D Model

  • Use the comment field to describe exactly what's wrong
  • Reference specific areas (lens, frame, bridge, etc.)
  • Suggest corrections if possible
  • Include photos of reference models if helpful

Validation Taking Too Long

  • Consider batch validation for similar items
  • Delegate validation to team members
  • Set validation deadlines per batch
  • Monitor progress with batch reports
